Olga Zhukova’s New Article "New Man: Nikolai Chernyshevsky in the Mirror of Russian Europeanism"

On March 30, 2017 the latest issue of the journal "Sociological Review" published an article of O.A. Zhukova, deputy head of the International Laboratory for the Study of Russian and European Intellectual Dialogue, dedicated to the latest book of V.K. Kantor "The fate of N.G Chernyshevsky: Felled Tree of Life"

The article raises two fundamental questions: whether Chernyshevsky's heritage can be "cleared" of the revolutionary myth and ideological interpretations; and to what extent it is fair to define him as a supporter of gradual reforms and a Christian thinker. Entering into a dialogue with V.K. Kantor, the author shows a discursive struggle over the heritage of Chernyshevsky, which has arisen among Russian philosophers and writers who represent the direction of Russian Europeanism and Christian liberalism in Russia's intellectual culture.
