Report of Professor Wolfgang Kissel of the University of Bremen

On May 29, 2018 Wolfgang Kissel, Professor of the University of Bremen, delivered the report on the theme "The Chekhov Theater and histrionics as a cultural problem" at the seminar "West and East: Universalism of Culture"

In his report Professor Kissel substantiated the thesis that all the dramatic creativity of Chekhov is profitably read in the metaphor which, emerged in antiquity, in its current form was formed in the era of the Christian Middle Ages, and in the Baroque theater was deployed to a broad world interpretation - metaphoric theatrum mundi. The speaker demonstrated concrete examples of philosophical problems which Chekhov was raising in his plays.
