Olga Zhukova's Report "Leo Tolstoy in the philosophical criticism of Nikolai Berdyaev"
In the Tolstoy museum there was held a lecture by the deputy head of the International Laboratory for the Study of Russian and European Intellectual Dialogue O.A. Zhukova
On December 12, 2018, HSE Professor O.A. Zhukova held a philosophical seminar in the Tolstoy museum, devoted to the analysis of N.A. Berdyaev's perception of L.N. Tolstoy. The lecture examined not only Berdyaev's critical interpretation of Tolstoyan movement, but also the personal perception by the philosopher of Tolstoy as a great Russian writer. O.A. Zhukova noted the ambiguity and complexity of Berdyaev's attitude to Tolstoy, which manifested itself, on the one hand, in Berdyaev's identifying himself with the type of Russian philosophizing that was formed by Dostoevsky and Tolstoy, on the other hand, in sharp criticism of Tolstoy and the accusation of him in the crisis of the Russian religious consciousness, which had irreversible consequences.
