Alexeу Kara-Murza's Lecture in the A.S. Pushkin Literature Museum

On January 30, at the A.S. Pushkin Literature Museum, there was held a lecture and presentation of the book "Italian Journey of Peter Chaadayev" by the chief research fellow of the IL for the Study of Russian and European Intellectual Dialogue, professor Alexey Alekseevich Kara-Murza.

A. A. Kara-Murza told about the significance of the Italian trip of the first professional Russian philosopher Pyotr Yakovlevich Chaadayev. The speaker emphasized the authentic author’s way of working with sources. Professor convincingly demonstrated his research technique, which allows us to reconstruct important circumstances of the intellectual biography of the studied thinkers and to extract new data that refine and complement the well-known interpretations of their work. Basing on the results of the study, A. A. Kara-Murza believes that it was in Italy where Chaadayev for the first time felt a strong will to give a philosophical interpretation of history. And it was Italy where he developed the intention of his main work - “Philosophical Letters”. The lecture was held in the Garden Pavilion of the museum complex and was richly illustrated with authentic images of Italian realities dating back to the time of Chaadayev’s trip.
