In the 70s and early 80s of the 19th century, discussions on the "Jewish question", held in Germany and Russia, influenced the further development of Russian-Jewish and German-Jewish relations. These discussions caused hot arguments which were mainly due to the fact that their main actors were the masterminds of those times – F. M. Dostoevsky and G. von Treitschke.
