O. D. Bazhenova's Presentation: "The Peculiarities of the Russian Dialogical Space. Art on the Border between Russia and Belarus between the XII and XVIII Centuries"

On November 29, 2023, the second lecture by Olga D. Bazhenova, a chief research fellow of the Laboratory, Professor of the Belarusian State University, took place within the framework of the progam "Belarus as a Transfer in the West and East Art"

The report highlighted several important areas on the path of Europeanization of Russia in the period between the XII and XVIII centuries. According to the author, they include: pre-Mongolian architecture of the Belarusian (Western Russian) lands as a modification of the Byzantine principles of construction and the discovery of Gothic forms; transfer of technological skills and formal solutions of the Renaissance-Early Baroque to the culture of Muscovy by Belarusian craftsmen in the 17th century (Polotsk-Smolensk-Novgorod); features of the Vilna (Belarusian) Baroque of the 18th century and Russian Baroque architecture. The author concluded that Russia's successful skills in conducting a dialogue with neighboring cultures gave it the opportunity to expand its area of artistic influence while preserving the stylistic originality of its art, creating a complex, multi-vector space of Russian culture.
