New Book by Vladimir Kantor

In April 2021, the publishing house "Center for Humanitarian Initiatives" published a book by V. K. Kantor, head of the International Laboratory for the Study of Russian and European Intellectual Dialogue

Abstract:

Vladimir Kantor, PhD, head of the International Laboratory for the Study of Russian and European Intellectual Dialogue at the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE), chooses the topic of his research to combine literature with philosophy. In the author's opinion, there was not a single great literary work that was not in the intense field of philosophical ideas. Outside of this context, the present literature is incomprehensible. Already Plato's dialogues were both philosophy and remarkable literature. According to Dostoevsky, "thought must be felt." But for this, there must be a thought in the work, there must be a philosophical context. The task of the researcher is to be able to see this and communicate what he saw to the reader, which can be done in the only way – to give an analysis of the philosophical meanings in the great works of world literature. The book examines the texts of Pushkin, Bunin, Chekhov, Dostoevsky, Chernyshevsky, Stepun, Veidle, Khodasevich, Pasternak, L. Shestov, Nietzsche, V. Kormer and other masters of literature in the philosophical context of their time. The second part is responses to the books of modern writers, for the most part close to the author in terms of position and life.
