F. Schiller's Die Kraniche des Ibykus: Ancient Sources and Translations into Russian — Yulia Agarkova's Report

On October 7, 2021, Yulia Agarkova, a research assistant of the Laboratory, made a presentation at the seminar "Dialogue between Russia and Europe: the View of Young Researchers"

Die Kraniche des Ibykus is a ballad by F. Schiller of 1797, the plot of which goes back to the ancient Greek legend about the death of the wandering poet. Based on the methodology of the school of receptive aesthetics, the speaker presented a description of the image of the ideal reader in the works of the Weimar classicism of the late 18th century and came to the conclusion that the ballad fits into the context of the literary ideology and philosophical views of Goethe and Schiller. At the end of the report, the canonical translation of Vasiliy A. Zhukovsky was analyzed.
