Alexander Avdeev's Speech at the Higher School of Economics

On November 2, 2023, the International Laboratory for the Study of Russian and European Intellectual Dialogue organized a meeting with diplomat and politician Alexander A. Avdeev

Alexander A. Avdeev visited the Faculty of Humanities of the Higher School of Economics at the invitation of the Head of the Laboratory, Professor V. K. Kantor. The event was open, and students, teachers, HSE researchers and external listeners were invited to meet the speaker.
Alexander Avdeev shared his experience of working in France, Bulgaria and the Vatican. He spoke about the urgent tasks and challenges facing Christianity, and about the possibilities of cooperation between the Catholic and Orthodox Churches in solving these issues. The speaker paid special attention to the issues of civilizational and Christian traditions and their position in the modern world, and also assessed the problem of politicization of the church in a historical perspective. The audience learned anout the internal trends in the Catholic Church and the conflicts of interests of various groups. The personality of the Pope and the analysis of his specific decisions have become a separate topic. As part of the Q&A session, Alexander Avdeev shared his impressions about young people in Russia, France, Germany and Italy and gave an assessment to the series 'The Young Pope'.
Alexander Avdeev wished HSE students and staff success and intellectual achievements, noting the role of young people in the present and future international and interconfessional cultural dialogue.
