Daniil Morozov and Irina Shchedrina at the International Kant Congress "The World Concept of Philosophy"
The laboratory staff took part in the International Kantian Congress "The World Concept of Philosophy", dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the thinker
On April 22-25, 2024 the International Kant Congress was held in Kaliningrad. This grandiose event had been preparing for several years.
Irina О. Shchedrina, senior research fellow at the International Laboratory for the Study of Russian and European Intellectual Dialogue (HSE), Boris I. Pruzhinin, Professor at the NRU HSE, and Tatyana G. Shchedrina, Professor at the Moscow State Pedagogical University, spoke at the thematic pannel "Kant and Kantianism in Russia: History, Discussions and Influence" with the presentation "Immanuel Kant in Gustav Shpet's Philosophical Anthropology: New Archival Materials". The report examined the significance of Kant's conceptual apparatus for the historical philosophy of Gustav G. Shpet. The speakers consistently reconstructed the "sphere of conversation" within which the concept of Shpet's "historical philosophy" was formed and revealed the place and role of I. Kant's ideas in Shpet's constructions of philosophical anthropology (the "Plato –Kant" antithesis and the problem of corporeality). Special attention was paid to Shpet's unique archival notes on Kant.
Daniil A. Morozov, research assistant of the Laboratory, also made the presentation "Monstrous Kant and Antinomies in the Reflections of Yakov Golosovker" within the thematic pannel "Kant and Kantianism in Russia: History, Discussions and Influence". Analyzing Golosovker's book, D. A. Morozov showed the embeddedness of this work, firstly, into the Russian tradition of Kant's perception, and, secondly, into Golosovker's philosophical project, despite the fact that the conceptual apparatus from the treatise "Imaginative Absolute" was not openly used in it. On the pages of the novel "The Brothers Karamazov" two principles of thinking, the abstract ratio (reason) and the living imaginatio (imagination), collide. According to the interpretation proposed in the report, Golosovker remains faithful to the national tradition in the fight against ratio and in following the antinomic thinking, but moves away from religious aspects and transfers his reflections into the sphere of imagination.
Daniil Morozov and Irina Shchedrina met and talked with many researchers from different countries. Kant's 300th anniversary brought together the Russian philosophical community. They also managed to get acquainted with Leonard A. Kalinnikov — the legend of Russian Kant studies. The official events were attended by the Rector of the Higher School of Economics N. Y. Anisimov and the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities of the HSE F. E. Azhimov. The congress program was extremely intense. The laboratory staff was at the epicenter of philosophical events for four days. A new three-volume edition of Kant's works was presented at the congress, which included previously unpublished notes and letters of the thinker in Russian.
The Congress was organized at a high level, and thanks should be expressed to the staff of the Baltic Federal University and specifically to Nina A. Dmitrieva, academic director of the Kantian Academy. The well-coordinated work of the volunteers is also worth noting. They were the real heroes of the congress: they met the guests at the airport, helped them get to the buildings of the BFU, guided the participants outside in the snowy and rainy weather. The philosophical holiday dedicated to the 300th anniversary of Immanuel Kant took place due to the efforts of the organizers, federal support and a consonant dialogue of researchers from different countries. Daniil Morozov and Irina Shchedrina became involved in the historical event.
